“World News” Takes Adults 25-54 Demo in 10 of Past 16 Weeks

 

“World News” Beats “Nightly News” in Adults 25-54 Every Day Last Week – First Time Since November 2007

 

“World News” Improves in Total Viewers Compared to the Same Week One Year Ago

 

Season to Date, “World News” is the Only Evening Broadcast to Improve in Both Adults 25-54 (+5%) and Total Viewers (+4%) from the Same Period Last Year

 

 

“ABC World News with Diane Sawyer” finished as the No. 1 evening news program in Adults 25-54 (1.846 million) for the 4th consecutive week during the week of July 21, 2014, according to Nielsen Media Research.  In fact, “World News” is posting its longest Adults 25-54 winning streak in more than 6 1/2 years – since w/o 10/8/07 through 10/29/07.  Further, “World News” has taken the top spot in Adults 25-54 in 10 of the last 16 weeks.  Leading NBC “Nightly News” (1.745 million) by 101,000 Adults 25-54, “World News” more than doubled (+166%) its lead from the same week last year (+38,000 on w/o 7/22/13).

 

“World News” was up on the year-ago week in Total Viewers (+1% - 7.352 million vs. 7.287 million on w/o 7/22/13) for the last 11 weeks and in 13 of the last 14 overall. 

For the 2nd week in a row, “World News” owned the week’s No. 1 evening news telecast in both Total Viewers (8.264 million) and Adults 25-54 (2.054 million) with its Monday broadcast.

 

“World News” beat “NBC Nightly News” in Adults 25-54 in all five head to head telecast during the week: Monday (+57,000 – 2.054 million vs. 1.997 million), Tuesday (+224,000 – 2.020 million vs. 1.796 million), Wednesday (+28,000 – 1.736 million vs. 1.708 million), Thursday (+108,000 – 1.836 million vs. 1.728 million) and Friday (+84,000 – 1.581 million vs. 1.497 million).  This represents the first time in more than 6 1/2 years for “World News” to beat “Nightly News” in every head-to-head telecasts during the week – since w/o 11/26/07.

 

Season to date, “World News” is up versus the same point last season in both Total Viewers (+4%) and Adults 25-54 (+5%), delivering its most-watched season in 6 years and best news demo number in 3 years – since the 2007-08 and the 2010-11 seasons, respectively. “World News” also stands as the only evening newscast to improve on its news demo performance from the previous season compared to “CBS Evening News” (-5%) and “NBC Nightly News” (-3%).

 

In addition, “World News” is narrowing its season margin with “NBC Nightly News” in Adults 25-54 by more than half (-56% – 133,000 vs. 300,000) compared to its season margin from the same point last year.  In fact, cutting its Adults 25-54 gap by double digits for the 3rd consecutive season, “World News” is seeing its closest news demo performance with the NBC program in 6 years – since the 2007-08 season.

 

“World News” has nearly doubled its Adults 25-54 season lead over “CBS Evening News” versus its year-ago season lead (+86% - 412,000 vs. 222,000).

 

For the week, “ABC World News” beat the “CBS Evening News” by 1.370 million Total Viewers and 405,000 Adults 25-54.
