Saturday night Peter Capaldi made his debut as the Doctor on the premiere of the eighth season of Doctor Who. The episode was broadcast around the world. In England, where the series airs on BBC One, the garnered 6.8 million viewers in the overnight ratings, ranking as the show’s highest rated season premiere since 2010, when Matt Smith debuted as the Doctor. Smith’s first episode garnered 8 million overnight viewers.
