“Fear the Walking Dead” may have opened its second season to series-low ratings, but that’s not putting any sort of damper on the show’s future.

AMC announced Friday that it’s renewing the show for a third season, set to debut in 2017. Aftershow “Talking Dead: Fear” will also be back.

“What [showrunner] Dave Erickson and [creator] Robert Kirkman have invented in ‘Fear The Walking Dead’ is to be applauded,” AMC president Charlie Collier says in a statement. “Watching Los Angeles crumble through the eyes of our characters and seeing each make decisions and try to figure out the rules of their new world — it’s fresh, eerie and compelling, and we’re all in for the ride.”

“Fear the Walking Dead” premiered to a 3.1 rating in adults 18-49 on April 10, lower than any Season 1 episode. In Live +3, it rose to a 4.2 and grew from 6.67 to 8.8 million viewers.
