If ‘Castle’ gets a ninth season, it will be without Stana Katic
“Castle” may yet get a ninth season on ABC. If it does, however, one of the show’s two leads (as well as a long-time supporting player) won’t be part of it.
Per Deadline, Stana Katic won’t return to the show as Detective Kate Beckett should a renewal come. Her contract is up at the end of this season, and Deadline reports she “was never approached” about a renewal.
“Rather then distract from what was an amazing experience, I would just like to say that I’m very grateful to ABC for giving me the opportunity to be a part of a much beloved show,” Katic tells the site. “Thank you to the fans.”
Along with Katic, Tamala Jones, who plays medical examiner Lanie Parish, will also depart at the end of Season 8.
Contract talks with title star Nathan Fillion are ongoing and likely the key to a renewal for a ninth (and possibly last) season. A shorter episode order is also possible.
