‘Underground’ renewed for Season 2 on WGN America
WGN America has picked up a second season of its drama series “Underground.”
The move isn’t much of a surprise, considering “Underground” has been a strong performer for the channel. It has become WGN America’s most-watched original series over the course of its first season, averaging 3 million Live +7 viewers. It typically draws a 0.3 same-day rating in adults 18-49, growing to 0.7 or 0.8 most weeks in Live +7.
“With enormous pride we are announcing a second season of ‘Underground,’ a series that has resonated with so many passionate fans across the country,” WGN America president and general manager Matt Cherniss says in a statement. “… It is an honor to have ‘Underground’ on our air, and we look forward to how the story will unfold in what is sure to be a stellar sophomore season.”
Season 2 will run for 10 episodes on WGN America (whose parent company, Tribune Media, also owns TV by the Numbers). It goes into production in the summer for a 2017 premiere.
“Underground” joins these shows that have been renewed for 2016-17 and beyond.
