‘Criminal Minds’ renewed for Season 12 on CBS

“Criminal Minds” was left off CBS’ list of veteran-series pickups in late March. Now, however, its return is ensured.

The network on Friday picked up the long-running drama for a 12th season. The delay was due in part to negotiations between CBS and ABC Studios, which co-produces the show.

“Criminal Minds” is CBS’ No. 2-rated drama in adults 18-49. For the 2015-16 season it averaged a 1.8 same-day rating, rising to 2.8 in Live +7, and just over 12 million Live +7 viewers. (“NCIS” is tops on the network in both measures.)

The status of “Criminal Minds” spinoff “Beyond Borders,” along with the rest of CBS’ freshman class, remains up in the air. The network reveals its schedule for 2016-17 on May 18.

“Criminal Minds” joins these shows that have been renewed for 2016-17 and beyond.
