The opening game of the NBA Finals scored a huge win for ABC Thursday, averaging a 6.0 rating in adults 18-49 and 15.58 million viewers, pending updates. Ratings for the game itself will likely go up in the finals, while “Jimmy Kimmel Live: Game Night” and “NBA Countdown” will probably come down.
In the overnight metered markets, Game 1 scored a 13.1 household rating, ABC’s best series opener since it started airing the finals in 2003. It’s up a bit from a 12.9 for Game 1 last year.
The premiere of “Beauty and the Beast’s” final season on The CW managed only a 0.2. “Bones” (0.9) was even with last week for FOX, while “American Grit” rose two tenths of a point to 0.7. “Strong” finished its run on NBC with a 0.6, down 0.1, and two hours of “Game of Silence” averaged 0.5.

Time Shifted Viewing: Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live +Same-Day and Live +7 Day. Time-shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+SD includes viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3 a.m. local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live +7 ratings include viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.
