USA delays ‘Shooter’ premiere in wake of Dallas killings
USA Network has delayed the premiere of its new drama series “Shooter” in the wake of last week’s killings in Dallas.
“In light of recent tragic events and out of respect for the victims, their families and our viewers, we have decided to postpone the premiere date for the upcoming USA Network series ‘Shooter’ to July 26,” a spokesperson for the cable channel says. The series had originally been slated to premiere July 19.
“Shooter” stars Ryan Phillippe as a military veteran and sniper wrongly accused of a crime and trying to clear his name. It is based on the 2007 film of the same name starring Mark Wahlberg — which itself is based on the bestselling Stephen Hunter novel “Point of Impact.”
Last week saw five police officers killed by a sniper in Dallas and eight others injured. The shootings occurred during a peaceful protest sparked by the fatal police shootings of African-American men in Baton Rouge, La., and Falcon Heights, Minn.
