Twenty-eight years and 600 episodes into its record-setting life on television, “The Simpsons” has done just about everything there is to do with a TV show. Yet the upcoming season will still feature a first for the show.

FOX announced Monday at the summer TV press tour that the show will air its first hour-long episode in January 2017. “Empire” star Taraji P. Henson and Keegan-Michael Key will provide guest voices for the episode.

“I just pray it won’t be the last thing people see before a Trump inauguration,” showrunner Al Jean jokes.

The episode is called “The Great Phatsby” and finds Mr. Burns being conned out of his fortune by a “mysterious music mogul.” Homer, Bart, the mogul’s ex-wife (Henson) and a rapper (Key) help Mr. Burns take revenge.

And since that probably won’t sustain an entire hour of story, the episode also features the richest kid in town having eyes for Lisa; Marge opening “an obscure boutique”; and Smithers going on a dangerous journey.

A specific date for the hour-long “Simpsons” hasn’t been determined yet.
