‘Zoo’ picked up for Season 3 at CBS
CBS has renewed its summer drama series “Zoo” for a third season.
The network announced the pickup Wednesday at the summer TV press tour. The renewal comes despite declining ratings for the show.
Through Tuesday, “Zoo” is averaging a 0.75 same-day rating in adults 18-49, down about 30 percent from its Season 1 average of 1.1. It typically adds 0.3 or 0.4 to its tally after a week of DVR viewing.
“Zoo” is, however, the best performer of the three original dramas CBS is airing this summer. The network has yet to make a decision on “American Gothic,” which is averaging a 0.6 same-day rating thus far, or “BrainDead,” the lowest-rated of the three at 0.5.
CBS also has a streaming deal with Netflix for “Zoo,” which may help offset some of the show’s cost and its middling on-air ratings.
Season 3 of “Zoo” is set for summer 2017.
