A new “Jack Ryan” series starring John Krasinski has landed a series greenlight at Amazon with a 10-episode order.

Based on Tom Clancy’s iconic CIA character, the series, described as a reinvention of the classic story, hails from Carlton Cuse (“Lost,” “Bates Motel”) and Graham Roland, who shepherded the adaptation.

Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, Andrew Form, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Marcy Ross, Mace Neufeld and Lindsey Springer are also exec producing. The series hails from Paramount and Skydance Television.

The hourlong action drama will follow the title character (Krasinski), an up-and-coming CIA analyst, who is thrust into a dangerous field assignment for the first time. He uncovers a pattern in terrorist communication that launches him into the center of a dangerous gambit with a new breed of terrorism that threatens destruction on a global scale.

“We’re excited to add the ‘Jack Ryan’ global franchise to our robust originals pipeline,” says Roy Price, head of Amazon Studios. “Our customers will enjoy a compelling adaptation of the action-packed spy thriller book series, further raising the bar for the quality level of storytelling that has made Prime Video a leading destination for content.”

Clancy’s book inspired five films, which introduced Jack Ryan as an ex-Marine who is drafted into the CIA. Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck and Chris Pine have all played the titular role with Pine starring in the most recent film, “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit” in 2014. Paramount produced all of the flicks and is back on board for the television series.
