‘Queen of the South’ renewed for Season 2 at USA
USA is extending the reign of “Queen of the South” for another year.
The cable channel has picked up a second season of the drama about Teresa Mendoza (Alice Braga), a woman who becomes a drug trafficker in the wake of her dealer boyfriend’s murder at the hands of a powerful cartel. “Queen of the South’s” Season 1 finale airs Thursday.
The series will also have a new showrunner in Season 2, with Natalie Chaidez (“12 Monkeys,” “In Plain Sight”) taking the reins from Scott Rosenbaum.
“Queen of the South” is averaging a 0.4 same-day rating in adults 18-49 and 1.22 million viewers for USA — on par with those of another first-year show on the channel earlier this year, “Colony.” (It was also renewed.) It rises to a 0.8 and 2.26 million viewers after a week of DVR viewing.
