AMC’s The Killing kicks off with a two hour premiere tonight at 9pm ET. I’ll definitely give it a look. The critics resoundingly seem to love it or at least like it, but as regular readers know, that often doesn’t correlate at all to the ratings.
At least so far when it comes to the critics, The Killing has a Metacritic score of 84. The Walking Dead had an 82 for its first season, and the much critically beloved Mad Men a jacked up score of 92 for its fourth season. Mad Men’s first season only scored a 77 though.
On the ratings front, it’s no contest. Premiere telecasts of The Walking Dead averaged nearly a 2.7 live+SD adults 18-49 rating in its first season. Mad Men’s fourth season average was closer to a 0.7 live+SD adults 18-49 rating for premiere telecasts.
The premiere of The Walking Dead scored a 2.7 Live+SD adults 18-49 rating, while the premiere of the fourth season of Mad Men premiered to a 0.9 Live+SD adults 18-49 rating, and I’ve used those premiere telecasts as the basis for the poll below. Since there’s a pretty wide range between Mad Men and The Walking Dead, I’ve…simplified. If you want to get more specific, feel free to post in the comments.
