The cast — including Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, “Pauly D” Delvecchio, Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino and Jenni “J-Woww” Farley — earned only a few hundred dollars each per episode for the first season, and now want a huge raise for the next one.

They had me at “The Hills Stars Get $100,000 per episode and that show doesn’t even rate as high.”

Jersey Shore started out slow but amid controversy quickly turned into MTV’s biggest hit, ending the season at series highs with MTV’s most-watched hour of reality entertainment in a long time.   The season one cast is only 8 (I think) people and whatever you think about the show (I’ve never seen it) for the ratings it’s getting,  $80,000 an episode for the cast is a bargain assuming they really are asking for $10,000 per episode.

If the blurb from the NY Post is true, I like these kids sticking together.  It’s also refreshing to see that the headliners, particularly some like  Snooki, and “The Situation” who are quickly becoming household names, at least among the adults 18-34 crowd didn’t ask for much more than $10,000 per episode, or even for more than some of the less heralded cast.

Update: Looks like MTV is already caving.   There are reports that MTV had offered each cast member a $10,000 bonus and $5,000 per episode which they rejected.  TMZ reports MTV has now upped the offer to $10,000 per episode, but there’s  no word on whether the offer has been accepted.
