When the cancellation of ABC Family’s Kyle XY was announced there was an unusual outpouring of fan antipathy towards ABC Family. Not just the fairly standard “save our show” pleadings that we typically see, but plenty of “ABC Family rot in hell, you will rue the day you cancelled Kyle XY” sorts of comments.

Even the recent reposting of an ABC Family press release on the premiere of their new show 10 Things I Hate About You, brought out the “ABC Family is doomed” commenters, complete with lots of numbers being thrown around about how the network’s ratings were headed downwards.

In fact, that couldn’t be further from the truth. ABC Family’s June 2009 primetime viewership is up in almost every demographic category we see for cable networks vs. their June 2008 ratings.

As they say, reports of ABC Family’s death are greatly exaggerated, and it seems like they’re doing just fine without Kyle XY.
