The long wait for a new season of “Rick & Morty” on Adult Swim brought fans out in droves for the official season premiere Sunday night.

The episode scored a 1.5 rating in adults 18-49, second-best on cable for the day, and 2.86 million viewers. That’s up considerably from its last regular episode (1.0 and 1.84 million for the Season 2 finale in October 2015). The surprise April Fool’s Day showing of Season 3’s first episode — which ran multiple times that night — had a high of 0.4 and 949,000 viewers.

“Game of Thrones” remained a dominant No. 1, holding steady at 4.3 in adults 18-49 and virtually equaling the previous week’s viewer count (9.25 million vs. 9.27 million). “Ballers” (1.3, 2.58 million viewers) and “Insecure” (0.7, 1.29 million) each hit series highs, topping last week’s numbers, and “Last Week Tonight” (0.7, 1.76 million) was also above average. TNT’s “Claws” (0.6, 1.59 million) scored series bests as well.

“Power” was even with the previous week’s 0.8 in adults 18-49 and improved a bit in viewers (1.83 million vs 1.79 million).
