The BET Awards were down year to year, but they still scored a big enough audience to lead Sunday’s cable ratings. “Power” on Starz and “Preacher” on AMC were down a bit vs. last year’s debuts as well, but both shows made solid returns.

The BET Awards delivered a 1.5 rating among adults 18-49 and 3.83 million viewers, down from 1.9 and 4.5 million in 2016. The post- (0.7) and pre-shows (0.4) also put up decent ratings for the channel.

“Power” began its fourth season with a 0.8 in adults 18-49, down from a series-high 1.1 for the Season 3 premiere but close to last season’s average of 0.9. “Preacher” (0.6) was also off three tenths of a point from its series premiere last year but on par with its season average.

“Fear the Walking Dead” ticked up vs. the previous week, rising a tenth to 1.0. The season finale of “Silicon Valley” was steady for HBO at 0.4.
