The premiere of “American Horror Story: Cult” was far and away Tuesday’s top show on cable. That’s the good news.

The bad news is that “Cult” (2.0 rating in adults 18-49, 3.93 million viewers) premiered well below the debut numbers for last season’s “AHS: Roanoke.” It was down 29 percent in adults 18-49 (from 2.8) and 23 percent in viewers (from 5.14 million).

Tuesday’s other marquee shows were mostly steady vs. a week ago. “WWE Smackdown” held at a 0.8 (it was up slightly in viewers), and “The Haves and the Have Nots” (0.7), “Ink Master” (0.5), “Shooter” (0.4) and “Being Mary Jane” (0.3) were all even as well. The Weather Channel claimed several spots in the top 25 with coverage of Hurricane Irma.
