The post-Super Bowl episode of “This Is Us” added a little more to its series-best ratings in the Live +7 rankings for Jan. 29-Feb. 4. But based on the show’s performance prior to Super Bowl Sunday, it looks like about half of the showcase episode’s audience was rented — i.e., there because it had the biggest lead-in of the year.

“This Is Us” has an 11.6 rating in adults 18-49 after seven days of delayed viewing, 127 percent higher than its seven-day average for the season prior to that (5.1). Its total audience of 33.43 million viewers is a little more than twice its average of 16.58 million.

Yet the seven-day gains for the Super Bowl episode — 2.3 points in the 18-49 demo and 6.44 million viewers — are almost exactly in line with “This Is Us'” average bumps (2.3 and 6.28 million).

It’s impossible to know from the data at hand the ratio of regular “This Is Us” viewers to newcomers who DVR’d the episode and watched it within a week. But the season-average gains, the roughly doubled total audience and the fact that “This Is Us” returned to normal levels two days later suggest that roughly half the Super Bowl audience were one-time viewers.

Here are the Live +7 rankings for the week of Jan. 29-Feb. 4. They include only first-run series and specials, not repeats.
