Broadcast Grows More Than 600,000 Viewers Week-to-Week and Has Its Best Total Viewer Advantage Since Jan. 4, 2009 – Tops ABC by 1.3 Million, CBS by 1.6 Million and FOX News by 3.1 Million
“Meet the Press” Increases Its Advantages Over The Competition in Homes, Total Viewers and Key Adult Demographics Week-to-Week
(New York) – March 26, 2009 – According to Nielsen Media Research data, “Meet the Press with David Gregory” was the most-watched Sunday morning public affairs program, winning the week ending Sunday, March 22 in all categories. The Gregory-moderated broadcast was No. 1, averaging 4.315 million total viewers, +45 percent more (+1,334,000) than second place ABC’s “This Week” 2.981 million, a +57 percent advantage (+1,562,000) over third place CBS’ “Face the Nation” 2.753 million and a +255 percent lead (+3,099,000) over FOX News Sunday’s 1.216 million. “Meet the Press” posted its best first place total viewer advantage since January 4, 2009 and was up 624,000 viewers compared to the prior week – increasing its total viewer advantage over ABC by 127% week-to-week. The NBC program has now placed first in total viewers for 390 of the past 393 weeks (when everyone is at full coverage).
In Washington, D.C., “Meet the Press” beat the competition with 116,000 viewers (4.3/12 HH), a +330 percent advantage over ABC’s 27,000 (0.9/3), a +214 percent lead over CBS’s 37,000 (1.1/3), and +241 percent more than FOX’s 34,000 viewers (1.3/4).
In homes nationally, the NBC program was No. 1, posting a 3.1 rating and 9 share. ABC came in second with a 2.2 rating and 6 share, CBS placed third with a 2.0 rating and 6 share and FOX was last with a 0.9 rating and 3 share. “Meet the Press” has now placed first in households for 128 consecutive weeks and 488 of the past 489 weeks (when everyone is at full coverage).
Among adults 25-54, the NBC Sunday morning show again placed first with a 1.2 rating. ABC and CBS tied for second with a 0.8 and FOX came in last with a 0.3. In rating A25-54, “Meet the Press” topped ABC and CBS by +50% (+4 tenths) and FOX by +300% (+9 tenths).
Versus the prior week, “Meet the Press” was up double digits across the board and increased its advantages over both “This Week” and FOX News Sunday in all ratings categories. The NBC program also increased its lead over “Face The Nation” in homes, total viewers, rating W18-49, and rating W/M/A25-54. Compared to its 1Q’09 to date average, “Meet the Press” increased its deliveries in homes and total viewers and widened its advantages in these categories over all competitors versus 1Q’09 to date levels. Season-to-date, the broadcast is also up double digits in every category. “Meet the Press” has widened its advantage this season over each of its competitors in rating A25-54.
Across all NBC News platforms, “Meet the Press” was seen by more than 5 million viewers on March 22. On its digital platforms, the program generated more than 245,000 online video streams from March 22 through March 25, 2009. Traffic to http://www.mtp.msnbc.com was at more than 725,000 page views for that same time period. The “Meet the Press” video podcast (available at http://www.mtp.msnbc.com) remains the top ranked network Sunday Morning program podcast on iTunes.
