Someone wake up Scully and Hitchcock: They’re needed for another year in the 99th Precinct.

FOX has renewed comedy “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” for a fifth season. The show has only modest on-air ratings, but it also scored a syndication deal with TBS earlier this season. That likely helped spur a deal between the network and producer Universal Studios.

With four episodes left in the season, “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” averages a 0.9 rating among adults 18-49 and 2.23 million viewers on the night it airs. It’s a decent DVR performer, improving to 1.5 and 3.21 million viewers over seven days.

The show is the fifth comedy FOX has renewed for next season, joining “The Mick,” “The Last Man on Earth,” “Bob’s Burgers” and “The Simpsons.” The network canceled “Making History” and “Son of Zorn” and has not yet made a call on “Family Guy” or “New Girl.” “Family Guy” is pretty much a shoo-in, and “New Girl” is also likely to return, possibly for a final season.

Season 5 of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” will also take the show past the 100-episode mark.
