FOX has added a second new drama to its lineup for next season, ordering a medical show called “The Resident” to series.

The show centers on a “tough, brilliant” senior resident (Matt Czuchry, “The Good Wife,” “Gilmore Girls”)who takes a new doctor (Manish Dayal) under his wing on the latter’s first day on the job at a hospital. Along the way, the rookie will be exposed to everything, good and bad, that goes on in the practice of 21st century medicine.

Bruce Greenwood, Emily VanCamp (“Revenge”) and Shaunette Wilson also star in the show.

Amy Holden Jones (“Black Box,” “Indecent Proposal”) wrote the pilot with “Code Black” veterans Hayley Schore and Roshan Sethi. Phillip Noyce directed the pilot and executive produces with Jones and Antoine Fuqua. Schore and Sethi are co-EPs.

“The Resident” joins Marvel show “The Gifted” on FOX’s schedule for next season, along with comedies “Ghosted” and “LA to Vegas.” The network unveils its schedule for 2017-18 on Monday.
