Freeform will attempt to keep the demons at bay for another season: It’s picked up a third season of “Shadowhunters.”
The show’s cast announced its pickup via Facebook Live on Friday. Season 3 will air in 2018, with a premiere date to be determined later. Like Season 2, it will run for 20 episodes and likely be divided into two parts.
The first half of Season 2 averaged a 0.3 rating among adults 18-49 and 699,000 viewers the night it aired. A week of DVR and on-demand viewing pushed it up to 0.5 and the 1.1 million-1.2 million viewer range.
“Shadowhunters” is based on the “Mortal Instruments” series of fantasy novels by Cassandra Clare. It stars Katherine McNamara as Clary Fray, who on her 18th birthday discovers that she’s a Shadowhunter, someone tasked with protecting humanity from demons.
The show also stars Dominic Sherwood, Alberto Rosende, Emeraude Toubia, Matthew Daddario, Isaiah Mustafa and Harry Shum Jr. Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer are the showrunners.
“Shadowhunters” joins these shows that have been renewed for the 2017-18 season.
