Compared to the Same Week Last Year, “Meet the Press” Posts Bigger Advantages Over Competitors In Every Category

Tremendous Win in Washington D.C. – Tops ABC by 278%, CBS by 237% and FOX by 496%

“Meet the Press” Widens its Lead Over “This Week” by Double Digits Week-to-Week as The Program Places Third in Total Viewers and in A25-54

(NEW YORK) –October 1, 2009 – “Meet the Press with David Gregory” was the most-watched Sunday morning public affairs program in all categories for the week ending September 27, 2009, according to Nielsen Media Research data. The NBC broadcast was No. 1, delivering 3.263 million total viewers, +14% more (+403,000) than second place CBS’ “Face the Nation” 2.860 million, an +23% lead (+613,000) over third place ABC’s “This Week” 2.650 million, and a +163% advantage (+2,021,000) over FOX News Sunday’s 1.242 million viewers. The NBC program has now placed first in total viewers for 411 of the past 415 weeks (when everyone is at full coverage). Rebroadcasts of the program delivered an additional 511,000 total viewers on MSNBC.

In Washington, D.C., “Meet the Press” had a tremendous win with 155,000 viewers (5.1/15 HH) – more than all the competition combined. The NBC program had a +278% lead over ABC’s 41,000 (1.6/5 HH), +237% more than CBS’ 46,000 (1.4/4 HH), and a +496% advantage over FOX’s 26,000 viewers (1.3/4 HH).

In homes nationally, the NBC broadcast topped the competition with a 2.3 rating and 7 share. CBS came in second with a 2.0/5, ABC in third with a 1.9/5, and FOX was last with a 0.8/2. “Meet the Press” has now placed first in households for 509 of the past 511 weeks (when everyone is at full coverage).

Among adults 25-54, the NBC Sunday morning show was No. 1 with 978,000 viewers; CBS came in second with 870,000 viewers, ABC placed third (for the third time this month) with 828,000 viewers and FOX last with 434,000 viewers.

Week-to-week, “Meet the Press” increased its advantages over “This Week” in homes (from 4% up to 21%), total viewers (from 7% up to 23%), and A25-54 (7% up to 18%). Versus its 3Q’09 average, the NBC program posted gains in homes (+10%), total viewers (+9% or +269,000), rating W18-49 (+20%) and rating W25-54 (+14%). Compared to the opening weekend of the 2008/09 season (same telecast last year), “Meet the Press” posted bigger advantages over each of its competitors in homes, total viewers, rating W18-49, and rating W/M/A25-54.

On its digital platforms, “Meet the Press” generated more than 441,000 online video streams from September 27 through October 1, 2009. The “Meet the Press” video podcast (available at remains the top ranked network Sunday Morning program podcast on iTunes.

Last week’s guests were President Bill Clinton, Gov. David Paterson (D-NY), Minority Whip Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ) and Sen. Jim Webb (D-VA) of the Armed Services and Foreign Relations Committees.
