Broadcast Continues to Grow in Key Adult Demos Week-to-Week and Is Up Double Digits Season-to-Date In Every Category
Ratings Victory Despite “Meet The Press” Lower Coverage Nationally and Irregular Start Times in Most Markets Due to Super Bowl Pre-Game Programming
NEW YORK – February 5, 2009 –According to Nielsen Media Research data, “Meet the Press with David Gregory” was the most-watched Sunday morning public affairs program, winning the week ending Sunday, February 1 in all categories. The Gregory-moderated broadcast was No. 1, averaging 3.903 million total viewers, +17 percent more (+571,000) than second place CBS’ “Face the Nation” 3.332 million, a +18 percent advantage (+585,000) over third place ABC’s’ “This Week” 3.318 million and a +163 percent lead (+2,419,000) over FOX News Sunday’s 1.484 million. “Meet the Press” has now placed first in total viewers for 383 of the past 386 weeks (when everyone is at full coverage). Please note, “Meet The Press” had lower coverage (96%) nationally and irregular start times in most markets due to Super Bowl pre-game programming.
In Washington, D.C., “Meet the Press” beat the competition with 140,000 viewers (5.1/13 HH), a +146 percent advantage over ABC’s 57,000 (2.0/5), a +84 percent lead over CBS’s 76,000 (2.4/6), and +141 percent more than FOX’s 58,000 viewers (2.0/5).
In homes nationally, the NBC program was No. 1, posting a 2.7 rating and 7 share. ABC and CBS tied for second with a 2.3 rating and 6 share and FOX placed last with a 1.0 rating and 3 share. “Meet the Press” has now placed first in households for 121 consecutive weeks and 481 of the past 482 weeks (when everyone is at full coverage).
Among adults 25-54, the NBC Sunday morning show again placed first with a 1.2 rating. CBS and ABC tied with a 0.9 and FOX came in last with a 0.4. In rating A25-54, “Meet the Press” topped CBS and ABC by +33% (+3 tenths) and FOX by +200% (+8 tenths).
In addition to seeing gains in key adult demos compared to the same telecast last season, “Meet the Press” is up double digits in every category season-to-date.
Last week’s guests were Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, a member of the Banking Committee, and Sen. John Kerry (D-MA), a member of the Finance Committee. The roundtable featured CNBC’s Erin Burnett, Forbes’ Steve Forbes, and Moody’s Economy.com’s Mark Zandi.
On its digital platforms, “Meet the Press” generated more than 119,000 online video streams from February 1 through February 4, 2009. Traffic to http://www.mtp.msnbc.com was at more than 393,000 page views for that same time period. The “Meet the Press” video podcast (available at http://www.mtp.msnbc.com) remains a top ranked network Sunday Morning program podcast on iTunes.
