Broadcast Continues to Dominate in Washington D.C., Outperforming CBS by 208%, ABC by 149% and FOX by 136%
Season-to-Date, “Meet the Press” is Up Double Digits In Every Category (New York) – January 15, 2009 – According to Nielsen Media Research data, “Meet the Press” won in households and key demos for the week ending Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009. The NBC program was No. 1 in homes nationally, posting a 3.1 rating and 8 share. ABC came in second with a 3.0 rating and 8 share, ABC in third with a 2.2 rating and 6 share and FOX placed last with a 1.3 rating and 4 share. “Meet the Press” has now placed first in households for 118 straight weeks and 478 of the past 479 weeks (when everyone is at full coverage).
In Washington, D.C., “Meet the Press” beat the competition with 182,000 viewers (6.0/14 HH) — a +208 percent advantage over CBS’ 59,000 (2.0/5), a +149% more than ABC’s 73,000 viewers (2.9/7) and a +136 percent lead over FOX’s 77,000 (2.9/7).
Among adults 25-54, the NBC Sunday morning show again placed first with a 1.2 rating. ABC came in second with 1.1, ABC placed third with a 0.8 and FOX came in last with a 0.5. In rating A25-54, “Meet the Press” topped ABC by +9% (+1 tenth), CBS by +50% (+4 tenths) and FOX by +140% (+7 tenths).
The Gregory-moderated program averaged 4.296 million total viewers, delivering +43 percent more (+1,284,000) than CBS’ “Face the Nation” 3.012 million and a +135 percent more (+2,471,000) than FOX News Sunday’s 1.825 million.
Among the Sunday competition, “Meet the Press” has shown the biggest growth versus last season in homes and rating women/adult 25-54, widening its advantage over the competition in each category. Season-to-date, the program is up double digits in every category.
Last week’s guests were Bill Cosby and Dr. Alvin Poussaint, co-authors of the best selling book “Come on People: On the Path from Victims to Victors,” and Washington D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty and congresswoman, Rep. Maxine Waters. The roundtable featured Economic adviser to president-elect Obama, Fmr. Rep. David Bonior; The Wall Street Journal’s Paul Gigot; CNBC’s John Harwood, Vanity Fair’s Bethany McLean; and Moody’s Economy.com’s Mark Zandi.
On its digital platforms, “Meet the Press” generated more than 273,000 online video streams from January 11 through January 14, 2009. Traffic to http://www.mtp.msnbc.com was at more than 805,000 page views for that same time period. The “Meet the Press” video podcast (available at http://www.mtp.msnbc.com) remains the top ranked network Sunday Morning program podcast on iTunes for more than one year running.
