Hosted by Iconic News Anchor Jorge Ramos, the December 2, 2012 Edition Tops ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC Shows Among Adults 18-49 and 18-34

MIAMI – DECEMBER 7, 2012 – Univision News, the award-winning news division of Univision Communications Inc., the leading media company serving Hispanic America, continues to build off of its strong November.  “Al Punto” (To The Point) out-delivered its English-language broadcast competition among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34, ranking as the #1 Sunday morning public affairs show on December 2 – ahead of “ABC This Week,” “CBS Face The Nation,” “NBC Meet The Press” and “FOX News Sunday.”  Additionally, “Al Punto” out-performed the competition on CBS and FOX among Adults 25-54 by 17% and 41%, respectively.


Sunday’s telecast marked the second time in the five-year history of “Al Punto” that it occupied the top position with Adults 18-49 (the first being June 28, 2009).  As well, in this demographic, over 95% of Univision’s audience did not watch any of the Sunday morning public affairs programming on English-language broadcast television, while the program continued to attract a younger audience base (47 years old) than competition on ABC (61), CBS (61), NBC (60) and FOX (58) during the most recent November sweep.


The December 2 edition featured video footage of the new Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto taking office under tight security and protests, interviews with the ex-Presidential Candidate in the 2012 Mexico Election, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, as well as discussions with the President of Vamos Unidos USA, Juan Jose Gutierrez and the spokeswoman of National Immigration Forum, Katherine Vargas and Dominican Journalists, Nuria Piera and Alicia Ortega.  Hosted by renowned journalist and co-anchor of Univision’s award-winning evening news program “Noticiero Univision” Jorge Ramos, “Al Punto” features exclusive interviews and round-table analyses focusing on the public affairs and political issues of importance to Hispanics across the United States.


  • The December 2, 2012, telecast of “Al Punto” delivered the program’s best performance in the 2012 calendar year thus far as well as in the current 2012/2013 season with 1.3 million Total Viewers 2+, 649,000 Adults 25-54, 623,000 Adults 18-49 and 225,000 Adults 18-34.


  • It generated strong audience gains from its previous airing as well as the same Sunday from a year ago:


ü  Vs. (11/25/2012): Viewers 2+ (+32%), Adults 18-34 (+46%), Adults 18-49 (+49%) and Adults 25-54 (+49%)

ü  Vs. (12/04/2011): Viewers 2+ (+38%), Adults 18-34 (+47%), Adults 18-49 (+55%) and Adults 25-54 (+64%)


  • Averaged more Adults 18-49 than “ABC This Week” (623,000 vs. 521,000; +20% advantage), “CBS Face The Nation” (623,000 vs. 365,000; +71% advantage), “NBC Meet The Press” (623,000 vs. 608,000; +2% advantage) and “FOX News Sunday” (623,000 vs. 349,000; +79% advantage).


  • Averaged more young Adults 18-34 than “ABC This Week” (225,000 vs. 192,000; +17% advantage), “CBS Face The Nation” (225,000 vs. 117,000; +92% advantage), “NBC Meet The Press” (225,000 vs. 170,000; +32% advantage) and “FOX News Sunday” (225,000 vs. 105,000; +114% advantage).


§  Attracted significantly more Hispanic viewers than the combined audience of the English-Language Sunday morning public affairs programming across Total Viewers 2+ (1,205,000 vs. 427,000; 2 times more), Adults 18-34 (222,000 vs. 31,000; 7 times more), Adults 18-49 (603,000 vs. 121,000; 5 times more) and Adults 25-54 (627,000 vs. 130,000; 4 times more).
