Celebration of “The Dirty South” Averages a 1.2 in the 18-49 Demoand Attracts Nearly 2 Million Total Viewers

Streams For “The Dirty South” at Up 168% Compared to Day-Of-Show Total From Last Year

NEW YORK, June 8, 2010
— The VH1 premiere of its 7th annual “2010 VH1 Hip Hop Honors music event on Monday, June 7 averaged a 1.2 rating among 18-49 viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research.   The telecast, which aired from 9-11 PM ET/PT, attracted nearly 2 million total viewers and scored as the second highest rated edition yet of the hip hop performance franchise.

The 7th annual “2010 VH1 Hip Hop Honors gathered some of the biggest names in entertainment to honor the “Dirty South.”  Taped at the Hammerstein Ballroom on Thursday, June 3 in New York City, and hosted by Craig Robinson (“The Office”/”Last Comic Standing”), Southern-based talent came together to celebrate this significant milestone in American hip hop music.

“VH1 Hip Hop Honors:  The Dirty South” also ruled the digital world and the “twittersphere” last night.  Performers and songs directly related to VH1’s two-hour telecast were consistently among the top 10 trending topics on Twitter last night according to  In fact, from 10:30 – 11:00 pm, nine different VH1 Hip Hop topics dominated the top 10 list.  In addition, the “VH1 Hip Hop Honors” itself was the #1 topic from 9:30 pm – 12 Midnight.

VH1 also threw a “Live Viewing Party” on and MissInfo.TV during last night’s telecast.  Viewers watched an East Coast live video chat hosted by Hot 97 radio personality and journalist Miss Info and other special guests including Sherrod Small, Shaheem from MTV News and Paul Wall.  Viewers were invited to join in the discussion via Twitter and Facebook.  During the live chat, instant video replays highlighted performances and were followed by Miss Info reads and tweets that featured links, allowing fans to share and syndicate performances right after they aired.

So far, streams for “The Dirty South” at are up 168% compared to the totals for Hip Hop Honors 2009.   Daily unique visitors to the Hip Hop Honors content were up 90% compared to the number for last year’s edition.
