ABC Late-Night (Monday – Friday)

With its late-night lineup of “Jimmy Kimmel Live” at 11:35 p.m. and “Nightline” at 12:35 a.m., ABC grew for the 2nd consecutive week in Total Viewers (+23% – 3.165 million vs. 2.565 million) and Adults 18-49 (+4% – 851,000 vs. 821,000) to deliver season-high performances. In fact, ABC scored its most-watched week in late-night in 3 years – since the week of 11/21/11.

 

ABC grew over the year-ago week (2.645 million and 823,000 on w/o 11/25/13) for the 6th straight week in Total Viewers (+20%), while growing by 3% in Adults 18-49. In fact, ABC was the only broadcaster to see growth in late-night over the same week last year in either Nielsen measure, as both CBS (-12%/-16%) and NBC (-10%/-2%) lost viewers.

 

·       ABC was the No. 1 network in late-night for the 6th week running in Total Viewers (3.165 million), beating NBC (+31% – 2.423 million) and CBS (+62% – 1.949 million) by its largest margins of the season. In fact, ABC drew the largest late-night audience for any network this season.

 

During the 2014 November sweep, ABC drew its biggest overall audience (2.545 million) for any sweep in 2 years and hit a 1-year high in Adults 18-49 (795,000) – since November 2012 and November 2013, respectively.

 

·       ABC finished as November’s No. 1 network in late-night for 3rd time in 4 years in Total Viewers (2.545 million), beating NBC by 7% (2.379 million) and CBS by 24% (2.056 million). Further, this marks ABC’s first sweeps victory ever over NBC with its new late-night line-up.

 

“Jimmy Kimmel Live” (M-F 11:35 p.m.)

During Thanksgiving week (w/o November 24, 2014), ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” shot up from the prior week by 24% in Total Viewers to its most-watched week ever (3.649 million vs. 2.934 million), while hitting a new season high for the 2nd week in a row in Adults 18-49 (+4% – 977,000 vs. 940,000).

 

“Kimmel” was up over Thanksgiving week last year (3.103 million and 951,000 on w/o 11/25/13) in both Total Viewers (+18%) and Adults 18-49 (+3%), growing its overall audience over the year-ago week for the 6th straight week. In fact, ABC’s “Kimmel” was the only 11:35 p.m. talk show to grow year to year in both Viewers and the young adult demo, as CBS’ “Late Show” was down by double-digits (-16%/-23%) and NBC’s “Tonight Show” was mixed (down -12%/up +3%).

 

·       ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” stood as the week’s No. 2 talk show in late-night in both Total Viewers (3.649 million) and Adults 18-49 (977,000), behind only NBC’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”

 

·       On Tuesday (11/25/14), Kimmel” drew 3.954 million Total Viewers, marking the show’s 3rd-most-watched telecast ever on any night in late-night.

 

During the 2014 November sweep, ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” attracted its biggest-ever audience for any sweep (2.998 million Total Viewers). “Kimmel” grew its overall audience over the 2013 November sweep by 7% in Total Viewers, growing over the previous November for the 5th year in a row. In fact, Kimmel” has attracted its largest-ever November audience for the 4th consecutive year.

 

During the sweep, Kimmel” delivered 3 of its 5 largest-ever weekly audiences (week of 11/24/14 – No. 1, week of 11/3/14 – No. 4 and week of 11/17/14 – No. 5) and posted 2 of its Top 5 most-watched single-day telecasts ever in late-night (Tues, 11/25/14 – No. 3 and Wed, 11/5/14 – No. 4).

 

·       ABC’s Kimmel” finished the November sweep as the No. 2 talk show in late-night in both Total Viewers (2.998 million) and Adults 18-49 (916,000), behind only NBC’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”

 

“Nightline” (M-F 12:35 a.m.)

ABC News’ “Nightline” ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers (2.219 million) during the week of November 24, 2014, based on Live +Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “Nightline” has won the week in overall viewers for the last 6 weeks, leading both CBS’ “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” (+852,000) and NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” (+470,000) by its largest-ever Total Viewer margins.

 

In addition, “Nightline” beat CBS’ “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” in Adults 25-54 (+263,000) and Adults 18-49 (+154,000).

 

For the 2nd week in a row, “Nightline” turned in increases from the previous week (1.813 million, 765,000 and 578,000, respectively on w/o 11/17/14) in Total Viewers (+22%), Adults 25-54 (+5%) and Adults 18-49 (+5%), hitting season highs in all three measures. In fact, “Nightline” drew its largest overall audience in nearly 2-1/2 years and best news demo performance in 1-1/2 years – since the weeks of 6/11/12 and 4/15/13, respectively.

 

“Nightline” also saw gains year to year (1.739 million, 740,000 and 570,000, respectively on w/o 11/25/13) across all key target demos: Total Viewers (+28%), Adults 25-54 (+9%) and Adults 18-49 (+6%).

 

“Nightline” owned the No. 1 telecast of the week with its Tuesday airing (11/25/14) in Total Viewers (2.383 million), outdrawing every telecast of the week of CBS’ “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” and NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers.” In fact, the Tuesday broadcast stands as “Nightline’s” most-watched telecast of the season.   

 

ABC News’ “Nightline” won the 2014 November Sweep in Total Viewers (1.824 million), based on Most Current Data from Nielsen Media Research. In fact, “Nightline” won its 3rd consecutive sweep in Total Viewers, with its November performance marking its largest-ever overall viewer audience in its new time slot. “Nightline” beat NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” (+251,000 – 1.573 million) and CBS’ “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” (+441,000 – 1.383 million) by its largest-ever sweeps margins.  

 

In addition, “Nightline” outdelivered CBS’ “The Late Late Show” during the 2014 November sweep with its largest-ever sweep advantages in Adults 25-54 (+201,000) and Adults 18-49 (+157,000). Further, “Nightline” trailed NBC’s “Late Night” by its narrowest sweep gaps in both Adults 25-54 (-13,000) and Adults 18-49 (-87,000).

 

“Nightline” improved on its November 2013 Sweep performance (1.776 million, 737,000, and 560,000) in Total Viewers (+3%), Adults 25-54 (+1%) and Adults 18-49 (+1%) to post the Net’s largest overall sweep audience in the time slot in 12 years – since November 2002.
