“Nightline” Delivers 4th Quarter Victory in Total Viewers Drawing its Most-Watched Quarter Ever in New Time Slot

 

“This Week” Turns in its Biggest Margin Win over NBC in the News Demo During Any Quarter in 17 Years

 

“20/20” Leads NBC in Total Viewers in 4th Quarter and  Delivers Strongest Quarter in Total Viewers and Adults 25-54 in 5 Years

 

 

“World News Tonight with David Muir”

 ABC News “World News Tonight with David Muir” won the 4th Quarter 2014 in Adults 25-54 (2.139 million), based on Most Current Data from Nielsen Media Research.  Leading NBC’s “Nightly News” (2.130 million) by 9,000 news demo viewers, “World News Tonight” delivered its first 4th quarter victory in 7 years – since 4Q07.  

 

 In addition, “World News Tonight” cut its year-to-year quarter gaps (4Q13) with “NBC Nightly News” by double-digits in Total Viewers (-39% – 630,000 vs. 1.040 million) and Adults 18-49 (-58% – 123,000 vs. 291,000).  “World News Tonight” turned in its closest 4th quarter performance with the NBC program in 6 years in Total Viewers and in 7 years in Adults 18-49 – since 4Q08 and 4Q07, respectively.   

 

“World News Tonight” scored across the board gains from the year-ago quarter (7.928 million, 1.982 million and 1.367 million, respectively, for 4Q13): Total Viewers (+7%), Adults 25-54 (+8%) and Adults 18-49 (+5%).  In fact, the ABC evening newscast attracted its largest overall 4th quarter audience in 7 years and best in Adults 25-54 in 5 years – since 4Q07 and 4Q09, respectively.  In addition, “World News Tonight” grew the most from 4Q13 compared to “CBS Evening News” (+1%/+3%/+3%) and “NBC Nightly News” (+2%/-6%/-6%). 

 

“World News Tonight” outdelivered the “CBS Evening News” during 4Q13 by 1.478 million Total Viewers, by 437,000 Adults 25-54 and by 276,000 Adults 18-49posting its biggest overall audience lead in 3 years and largest in both key adult demos in 5 years during a 4th quarter – since 4Q11 and 4Q09, respectively.

 

 

“Good Morning America”

 ABC News’ “Good Morning America” ranked as the No. 1 morning program during the 4th Quarter 2014 in both Total Viewers (5.536 million) and Adults 25-54 (2.057 million), based on Most Current Data from Nielsen Media Research.   Leading all 4 quarters of the previous 2 years (2013 and 2014), “GMA” has won the last 10 quarters in Total Viewers and the last 9 in Adults 25-54.

 

“GMA” led the No. 2-ranked NBC’s “Today Show” (4.889 million and 1.889 million, respectively) by 647,000 Total Viewers and by 168,000 Adults 25-54 to win the 4th quarter for the 3rd straight year.  Further, “GMA” outdelivered “Today” by its largest 4th quarter margin in the key adult news demo in 23 years – since 4Q91.

 

“GMA” outperformed “CBS This Morning” during 4Q14 in Total Viewers by 72% and more than doubled its performance in Adults 25-54 (+107%) and Adults 18-49 (+117%).  “GMA” marked its largest Adults 18-49, 4th quarter lead (797,000) over the CBS program in 8 years – since 4Q06.

 

 

“Nightline”

ABC News’ “Nightline” won 4th quarter 2014 in Total Viewers (1.709 million), leading for the 2nd time in the last 3 quarters, based on Most Current Data from Nielsen Media Research. “Nightline” beat NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” (+252,000) and CBS’ “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” (+121,000) by its largest-ever quarter margins.  In addition, “Nightline” led the CBS program by its 2nd-best-ever quarter advantages in Adults 25-54 (+111,000) and Adults 18-49 (+72,000), behind only 3Q14. 

 

“Nightline” edged out its year-ago quarter performance in Total Viewers (1.709 million vs. 1.703 million for 4Q13) to draw its most-watched quarter ever in its new time slot.  In fact, “Nightline” drew the Net’s largest overall quarter audience in the time slot in 11 years – since 4Q03.

 

 

“This Week with George Stephanopoulos

For the 4th Quarter 2014, “This Week with George Stephanopoulos” averaged 2.848 million Total Viewers and 840,000 Adults 25-54, based on Most Current Data from Nielsen Media Research.

 

For the 2nd year in a row, “This Week” beat NBC’s “Meet the Press” (2.703 million and 748,000, respectively) in Total Viewers (+145,000) and Adults 25-54 (+92,000) during the 4th quarterleading the NBC program by its largest news demo margin during any quarter in 17 years and biggest in overall viewers during a 4th quarter in 18 years – since 3Q97 and 4Q96, respectively.     

 

Further, “This Week” has beaten “Meet the Press” in the last 6 quarters in both Total Viewers and Adults 25-54.  

 

“This Week” improved on the year-ago quarter in Adults 25-54 (+4% – 806,000 for 4Q13) to deliver its strongest 4th quarter performance in 5 years – since 4Q09.  In addition, “This Week” grew the most in in the key adult news demo versus the year-earlier quarter compared to CBS’ “Face the Nation” (+1%), NBC’s “Meet the Press” (-7%) and Fox’s “Fox News Sunday” (+1%).

 

“20/20”

During the 2014 4th quarter in its 10:00 p.m. time period, ABC’s “20/20” led NBC programming (“Dateline-Fri”/”Constantine”) by 9% in Total Viewers.

                               

“20/20” was up over 4Q13 by 3% in Total Viewers, by 7% in Adults 18-49 and by 5% in Adults 25-54.  In fact, “20/20” delivered its strongest numbers 4th quarter numbers in Total Viewers and Adults 25-54 (tie) in 5 years – since 4Q09.

 

On average, ABC’s “20/20” stood as the No. 2 newsmagazine in Adults 25-54 during 4Q14, behind only CBS’ NFL-fueled “60 Minutes,” topping CBS’ “48 Hours” and NBC’s “Dateline-Fri.”

 

“Good Morning America Saturday”

ABC News’ “Good Morning America Saturday” ranked No. 1 during 4th Quarter 2014 in both Total Viewers (3.847 million) and Adults 25-54 (1.335 million), based on Most Current Data from Nielsen Media Research.  “GMA Saturday” debuted in its current format in September 2004. 

 

“GMA Saturday’s” 4th quarter win represents its 8th straight quarter victory in Total Viewers and 6th in a row in Adults 25-54. 

 

“GMA Saturday” defeated NBC’s “Saturday Today” (3.080 million and 965,000) during 4Q14 by +767,000 Total Viewers and +370,000 Adults 25-54, leading the NBC program by its largest-ever  quarter margin in the key adult news demo.

 

 

“Good Morning America Sunday”

 For the 4th Quarter 2014, “Good Morning, America Sunday” averaged 3.475 million Total Viewers and 1.144 million Adults 25-54, based on Most Current Data from Nielsen Media Research.  “GMA Sunday debuted in its current format in September 2004.

 

“GMA Sunday” saw a slight increase from the year-ago quarter in Adults 25-54 (1.144 million vs. 1.143 million for 4Q13) to deliver its best-ever news demo performance during a 4th quarter.

 

“GMA Sunday” led NBC’s “Sunday Today” (3.260 million and 998,000, respectively) for the 7th quarter in a row in Total Viewers (+215,000) and the 5th straight in Adults 25-54 (+146,000), each with its largest-ever 4th quarter advantages.

 

 

“ABC World News Tonight Sunday”

 ABC’s “World News Tonight Sunday” averaged 5.026 million Total Viewers and 1.097 million Adults 25-54 during the 4th Quarter 2014, based on Most Current Data from Nielsen Media Research.  “World News Tonight Sun” beat “NBC Nightly News Sun” (4.660 million and 968,000, respectively) in both Total Viewers (+366,000) and Adults 25-54 (+129,000) during 4Q14.  In fact, “World News Sun” has outdelivered the NBC program during the 4th quarter for the last 4 years in overall viewers and in 3 of the last 4 years in the key adult news demo. 

 

 

“America This Morning”

 ABC’s “America This Morning” ranked No. 1 during the 2014 4th Quarter in Total Viewers (1.533 million) and Adults 25-54 (629,000), based on Most Current Data from Nielsen Media Research

  

For the 2nd year in a row during the 4th quarter, “America This Morning” more than doubled the performance of NBC’s “Early Today” in Total Viewers (+101% – 1.533 million vs. 763,000).  In addition, “American This Morning” led the NBC program by a solid 72% in Adults 25-54 (629,000 vs. 366,000).  

 

“America This Morning” beat “CBS Morning News” by double-digits in both Total Viewers (+58% – 1.533 million vs. 970,000) and Adults 25-54 (+50% – 629,000 vs. 420,000) during 4Q14.  

 

 

“World News Now”

For the 3rd year in a row, ABC’s “World News Now” ranked No. 1 during the 4th quarter in both Total Viewers (557,000) and Adults 25-54 (241,000), based on Most Current Data from Nielsen Media Research.  

 

“World News Now” beat CBS’ “Up to the Minute (490,000 and 216,000, respectively) by 67,000 Total Viewers and by 25,000 Adults 25-54.

 

“World News Now” led NBC (371,000 and 191,000, respectively, with Various Network Programming) in both Total Viewers (+186,000) and Adults 25-54 (+50,000).
