(WASHINGTON, D.C. — JANUARY 23, 2013) Love is in the air this Valentine’s season as National Geographic Channel and Kelton Research reveal the findings from a survey gauging Americans’ mind-set related to a potential “doomsday” scenario.
The survey coincides with National Geographic Channel’s No. 1 series, Doomsday Preppers (Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT), focusing on Americans with an unshakable certainty that America soon faces tougher times — when grocery stores are empty, water is in short supply and electricity is unavailable — and are stockpiling for survival.
Valentine’s Day isn’t complete without a cocktail, and what better way to celebrate your love than to enjoy a Sex on the Beach. If the end is near, the alcoholic beverage that more than one in five (21%) of Americans aged 21 and over would most want to be sipping is Sex on the Beach. Others include:
Hurricane (rum and fruit juices) at 13 percent
Bloody Mary (vodka, tomato juice, hot sauce) at 9 percent
Dark & Stormy (rum and ginger beer) at 6 percent
And of course, if s$#t hits the fan, we all would want our final fantasies to come true. Actress Jennifer Aniston tops the list of female celebrities with whom men would most like to spend their last few months on earth, at 17 percent. Other popular starlets include Megan Fox (13%), Scarlett Johansson (11%) and Angelina Jolie (10%).
For women, actor George Clooney was in the lead, with 23 percent fawning over him, besting Channing Tatum (10%) and Ryan Gosling (6%).
If a celeb isn’t your fancy, meet Jeff Flaningham. This Valentine’s season, our “Bachelor Prepper” is looking for love and a special “Prepper Mate” who shares his passion for preparing for a catastrophic event. Will he find his leading lady in time for Valentine’s Day to help him stay warm in his customized bunker?
Catch Jeff on Doomsday Preppers as he searches for his true love…and bunkermate:
Doomsday Preppers: Solutions Not Problems
Premieres Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at 9 p.m. ET/PT
Prepping for an economic collapse, Jeff is converting a decommissioned missile silo into the perfect bug-out getaway. But that’s not all Jeff is focused on. With an online dating profile, he is also searching for a special someone who can share his love for prepping. We’ll see Jeff, a bachelor on the lookout for love, not only work on his bunker, but also go on multiple dates to find his prepper mate. Will he select one to take to his secret bunker? We also meet Doug, who lives in the mountains of Tennessee. He currently runs his own stone quarry, and the locals call him “Rockman.” But what they may not know is that he is using rocks to prepare his underground bunker for the upcoming economic collapse. Will he build a safe haven out of his rock stockpiles?
