LIGA MX FINAL BREAKS RECORDS ON UNIVISION AND RANKS AS THE NO. 1 PRIMETIME PROGRAM amONG ADULTS 18-49 and adults 18-34 ON sunday night
Liga MX Final is Highest Rated Liga MX Match on any Network Among Total Viewers 2+
Univision Ranked as the No. 1 Most Social Broadcast Network, Regardless of Language, on May 26
MIAMI – MAY 29, 2013 – Univision Deportes, the sports arm of Univision Communications Inc., the leading media company serving Hispanic America, today announced that its live coverage of the Liga MX final featuring Club America vs. Cruz Azul delivered 4.5 million Total Viewers 2+, 2.6 million Adults 18-49 and 1.3 million Adults 18-34. Airing live from Azteca Stadium in Mexico City, Mexico on Sunday, May 26 from 8:50 p.m. to 11:46 p.m. ET, the Liga MX final was Sunday’s highest rated primetime program, regardless of language, on all of broadcast television with Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34. The historic match also made Univision the No. 1 broadcast network in primetime among Adults 18-34, beating ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC.
The home of soccer, Univision Deportes holds the most media rights to the Liga MX, including Club America, and will welcome rights to the Cruz Azul and Chivas teams in July 2013. In fact, Univision Deportes aired more Liga MX playoff games in the 2013 Clausura season than any other network, regardless of language. Sunday’s Liga MX final included unprecedented coverage of the impending match, with 13 hours of coverage produced live from Azteca Stadium in Mexico City.
This Sunday’s Liga MX final was the highest rated Liga MX match on any network ever among Total Viewers 2+. It also was the third highest rated Liga MX match on any network among Adults 18-49, trailing the America vs. Chivas SuperClasico on Univision that aired on March 18, 2007 and the Pumas vs. Chivas final on Univision on June 13, 2004. Breaking more records, the 2013 Clausura season was the highest rated season on Univision Deportes platforms since the 2007 Clausura season.
In a dramatic ending that crowned America the winner of the 2013 Liga MX Clausura season with a win over Cruz Azul, the Liga MX final on Univision outperformed all NBA playoff games featuring Memphis and San Antonio, the NASCAR Sprint Cup on FOX and all NHL playoff games, among other sports events last week, among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34. On the night, the Liga MX finale on Univision ranked as the No. 2 Sunday night program behind the NBA playoffs among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34.
In local markets, the Liga MX final made Univision the No. 1 broadcast station during the time period in the following markets:
- Among Total Viewers 2+ in Los Angeles, New York, Houston, Dallas and Phoenix
- Among Adults 18-49 in Los Angeles, New York, Houston, Dallas, Phoenix and Sacramento
- Among Adults 18-34 in Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, Phoenix and Sacramento
Additionally, among Adults 18-49, the Liga MX final featuring America vs. Cruz Azul was the most watched Liga MX match on Univision since 2011 in four out of the Top 5 Hispanic markets – Los Angeles, New York, Houston and Dallas.
On social media, Univision ranked as the No. 1 most social broadcast network, regardless of language, with the Liga MX final ranking as the No. 1 social broadcast program and sports event, on May 26 according to SocialGuide. In addition, the Liga MX final had more social engagement than TNT’s NBA Miami Heat vs. Indian Pacers game – delivering more tweets per unique.
