ABC’s Brian Ross Unit Named 2014 Goldsmith Award Finalist; Winner Announced Today

The Brian Ross Unit along with our reporting partners at the Center for Public Integrity have been named 2014 Goldsmith Award finalists for their year-long investigation “Breathless and Burdened: Dying from Black Lung, Buried by Law and Medicine.”

The award is given annually by the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University for “investigative reporting that best promotes more effective and ethical conduct of government, the making of public policy, or the practice of politics.”

This in-depth investigation discovered that coal companies paid Johns Hopkins to deny hundreds of sick mine workers black lung benefits.

ABC’s Matt Mosk was the lead producer along with ABC News Chief Investigative Correspondent Brian Ross and ABC News Producer Rhonda Schwartz.
