CBS Sports Special Pays Tribute to Dads of the PGA TOUR

PGA TOUR 2013: Golf’s Dads presented by Dove Men + Care airs June 2

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FL (May 29, 2013) – In the storied history of golf, one constant has remained true through the generations that have played the sport: a link, forged in back yards and on empty fields, between fathers and sons.

PGA TOUR 2013: Golf’s Dads presented by Dove Men + Care, a one-hour CBS Sports special airing Sunday, June 2 at 1:30 p.m. ET, chronicles the special bond that golf creates between father and son. From PGA TOUR stars to everyday families, the show will tell the stories of how this powerful relationship fosters an individual’s love for the game.

There is, for instance, the well-known story of Davis Love III, a 20-time winner on the PGA TOUR and 2012 Ryder Cup captain, whose father was a noted teaching professional who nurtured Davis’ passion for golf and outstanding talent. Tragically, Davis Love Jr. was killed in a private airplane crash in 1988. But the lessons he taught his oldest son helped Davis III to persevere and become the success he has been on the PGA TOUR, as well as in business. Now he has had the opportunity to pass this special bond through golf onto his son, Davis IV, now playing for the University of Alabama.

Also highlighted is the success of 2011 FedExCup champion Bill Haas, who is living up to the impressive legacy set forth by his father, Jay, a 9-time winner on the PGA TOUR and success on the Champions Tour. The golfing highlight for them came at the 2011 TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, when Jay was on hand to watch his son capture not only the tournament title, but the FedExCup title, as well.

And there is the first family of golf instruction, the Harmons. What began with 1948 Masters champion Claude was passed on to son Butch, who in turn has passed the talent on to his own son, Claude. It is a family that truly has made an impact on the game through play and instruction.

Also featured are:

  • Phil Mickelson, who learned from his father and continues to make family first;
  • Earl and Tiger Woods
  • Ernie Els and son Ben
  • Stuart and Malcolm Appleby
  • Matt Kuchar and his family
