CURRENT TV ANNOUNCES WEEK OF PROGRAMMING HIGHLIGHTING HUNGER, UNDERNUTRITION AND OBESITY IN AMERICA
“Currently: Feeding the Need” Launches Week Before Thanksgiving On-air and Online
New York, NY, November 12, 2012 – Current TV will launch a new pro-social campaign titled “Currently: Feeding the Need” on Tuesday, November 13th. The program will contain on-air and online components and will highlight issues of hunger, undernutrition and obesity that affect millions of Americans each year. “Currently: Feeding the Need” is in partnership with Share Our Strength, whose “No Kid Hungry” campaign ensures that children have access to healthy food in schools; 1,000 Days, which focuses on nutritional issues within the first 1,000 days of a child’s life and the Pennington Biomedical Research Foundation, a research institute that connects chronic disease to nutritional conditions like obesity.
“Hunger, malnutrition and obesity affect millions of Americans of all ages. Because we believe these issues are important to our viewers, we are focusing attention on them in all our programming,” said Current CEO and co-founder Joel Hyatt. “Along with our partner organizations, who each bring tremendous knowledge and commitment to addressing these issues, we at Current hope to increase awareness and action on alleviating hunger and obesity in America.”
All of Current’s morning and primetime programs will feature segments highlighting these topics between November 13th and November 21st. Notable guests include: Dr. Dean Ornish (11/16), a leading expert on using food to prevent disease, on “The Gavin Newsom Show;” Chef Michael Symon (ABC’s “The Chew”) (11/13) and Chef Alex Guarnaschelli (Food Network’s “Chopped”) (11/15) on “Joy Behar: Say Anything!;” celebrity chef and restaurateur Wolfgang Puck (11/13) and Chef Mary Sue Milliken (11/15) on “The Young Turks;” Rep. Peter Welch (D-VT) (11/13) on the Farm Bill and Joel Berg (11/19), executive director of NYC Coalition Against Hunger, on “Viewpoint with Eliot Spitzer;” Abby J.
