FOX News Channel Is Number One In Cable News For 149 Consecutive Months
- This May, FOX News Channel marked 149 months at number one in total viewers among cable news channels in both total day and primetime.
- In all of cable, FNC ranked sixth in both primetime and total day.
- In total viewers, FNC continued to outpace CNN and MSNBC combined in both total day and in primetime while outperforming all cable news networks in the key adults 25-54 demographic. During each weekday hour, FNC bested CNN and MSNBC combined in total viewers.
- FNC claimed the top fourteen cable news programs in total viewers as well as nine out of the top ten programs among Adults 25-54.
It was not a strong month for rival CNN. The network posted a 23 year low in the 9PM hour in total viewers going back to October 1991 with just 357,000 total viewers.
In primetime, CNN’s 9pm and 10pm hours were down over 50 percent among total viewers versus last year. The 9pm hour was down 52 percent while the 10pm was down 55 percent. CNN ranked third in primetime among adults 25-54 behind MSNBC, finishing just one impression ahead of CNBC.
In total day, CNN placed fourth among adults 25-54,ranking behind both sister network HLN and MSNBC. CNN fell to 93,0000 viewers in total day among adults 25-54, losing 42 percent of their viewers in the demographic versus the same time last year. HLN averaged 103,000 adults 25-54 viewers in total day.
