“GMA” Cuts Year-to-Year Total Viewing Gap by -56% and Demo Gap by -42% with “Today”


“GMA” Posts Double-Digit Growth Year-to-Year While NBC and CBS Decline


“GMA” is Attracting Largest Overall Season Audience in 4 Years



ABC News’ “Good Morning America” averaged 4.759 million Total Viewers and a 1.6/11/1.872 million in Adults 25-54 for the week of October 10, 2011.  “GMA” was up week to week in both Total Viewers (+1%) and Adults 25-54 (+3%), scoring its best news demo performance in over 4 months – since w/o 5/23/11.  “GMA” qualified as the only network morning news program to increase week to week, as both NBC’s “Today” (-2% and -3%, respectively) and CBS’ “Early Show” ( -6% and -4%, respectively) saw decreases.


For the 4th time in 4 weeks of the new season, “GMA” saw double-digit growth over the year-ago week in both Total Viewers (+11%) and Adults 25-54 (+12%).  “GMA” stood as the only morning news program to grow year to year among the network morning programs in either Nielsen measures (NBC’s “Today” was down by less than -1% and by -5%, respectively; CBS’ “Early Show” was down by -10% and by -16%, respectively).


“GMA” decreased its week-to-week margins with “Today” by double-digits in Total Viewers (-32% – 386,000 vs. 565,000) and Adults 25-54 (-22% – 444,000 vs. 571,000), posting its smallest news demo gap with the NBC program in 15 months – since w/o 7/5/10.  For the 4th straight time this season, “GMA” substantially cut its gaps with “Today” from the year-earlier week in both Total Viewers (-56% – 386,000 vs. 883,000) and Adults 25-54 (-42% – 444,000 vs. 765,000).


Season to date, “GMA” narrowed its gaps in both Total Viewer (-54%) and Adults 25-54 (-34%) versus its year-ago season gaps for the 2nd year in a row, posting its smallest Total Viewer margin (442,000) with the NBC program in 4 years – since the 2007-08 season.


“GMA” bettered CBS’ “Early Show” by 2.335 million Total Viewers (4.759 million vs. 2.424 million) and by 871,000 Adults 25-54 (1.872 million vs. 1.001 million).


Season to date, “GMA” is up the most among the network morning news programs in Total Viewers (+15%) and stands as the only morning program to grow in Adults 25-54 (+13%) versus its year-ago averages (NBC’s “Today” is up by +2% and down by -2%, respectively; CBS’ “Early Show” is down by -4% and by -8%, respectively). “GMA” is attracting its largest overall season audience in 4 years – since the 2007-2008 season.
