and Bible Stories including Esther and Book of Ruth

ATLANTA, March 26, 2013 – GMC TV, America’s Easter celebration destination, announced today that the kick-off to its 2013 Easter programming generated the network’s strongest ratings since Christmas.

From Friday, March 22 through Palm Sunday, March 24, GMC reached 5.2 million P2+ (source 1). The GMC Original Playhouse Premiere, “Between Sisters” (Saturday, March 23, 7, 9 and 11 p.m. ET) was the strongest GMC Playhouse premiere night ever, reaching more than 1.2 million P2+ and ranking #3 in its time period among Black W25-54 and #4 among Black W18-49 (source 2).

On Palm Sunday (March 24, 7-11 p.m. ET), GMC’s airing of the acclaimed film Jesus, Parts 1 and 2, registered the network’s strongest Sunday since Christmas week. Jesus  delivered more than 3.3 million P2+ and ranked the network among the top 40 ad-supported cable networks in total households (#38) and W25-54 (#38) (source 3). Jesus, starring Jeremy Sisto, Debra Messing, Jacqueline Bisset and Academy Award nominee Gary Oldman, traces the life of Christ, growing from a simple carpenter to the Savior whose teachings and sacrifice provide hope and salvation to billions of followers.

GMC will present an encore airing of Jesus Parts 1 and 2 on Good Friday, March 29 from 8 p.m. to midnight ET as a lead-in to the network’s holiday-themed weekend of Easter programming.

Coming up, on Saturday, March 30 and Easter Sunday, March 31 at 7, 9 and 11 p.m. ET, GMC TV will present its original GMC World Premiere Movie, The Carpenter’s Miracle, starring Cameron Mathison (”All My Children”), Michelle Harrison, Sarah-Jane Redmond (“Smallville”) and Ryan Grantham (Diary of a Wimpy Kid). In The Carpenter’s Miracle, a simple touch changes everything. Josh is just an average carpenter in a small town, but when his touch miraculously brings a dead boy back – a boy he tried valiantly to save when he fell into a freezing lake – things spin totally out of control. The media rushes to promote the act and proclaims that it is a miracle. However, there are those who are determined to debunk the entire story and Josh and the boy’s mother are thrust into a whirlwind they never expected.

On Easter Sunday, GMC will showcase a “Touched by an Angel” marathon hosted by the series’ star, Roma Downey (executive producer and star of “The Bible” mini-series on The History Channel), leading into the premiere of The Carpenter’s Miracle at 7 p.m.

Leading up to Easter weekend, GMC continues its “Greatest Stories of the Bible” slate, including:

Wednesday, March 27, 8 p.m. to midnight ET

The Ten Commandments, the story of Moses, who against impossible odds, leads the Jews out of Egyptian slavery into perilous freedom. Stars Dougray Scott, Paul Rhys, Omar Shariff and Naveen Andrews (2006). (Parts 1 & 2)

Thursday, March 28, 8 p.m. to midnight ET

Solomon is crowned King of Israel and rules the land with love, peace and respect. He meets the beautiful Queen of Sheba and falls in love at first sight. Stars:  Ben Cross, Vivica A. Fox, Max Von Sydow, G.W. Bailey, Anouk Aimee.

Brad Siegel, vice chairman of GMC TV, said, “Our Easter week success and volume of programming reinforces our standing as the television home for this holiday, just as we have established ourselves as ‘America’s Christmas Channel.’ We have successfully built a network around these tentpoles as well as our every day family and faith-friendly programming slate.”

Previously, in addition to Jesus and “Between Sisters,” GMC presented Easter favorites including Esther (Jurgen Prochnow, Thoma Kretschmann, F. Murray Abraham and Louise Lombard); Book of Ruth (Lana Wood, Dan Haggerty, Sherry Morris, Carman, Elise Lester); Jeremiah (Patrick Dempsey, Keaus Maria Brandauer); Mary, Mother of Jesus (Christian Bale, Pernilla August, Melinda Kinnaman, Geraldine Chaplin).
