New York, NY – Monday, February 24, 2014 – Step right up to the IFC Fairgrounds! In what will be IFC’s largest SXSW event to date, this year the network will be transforming downtown Austin’s Palm Park (East 3rd St. & Red River) into a festive and free outdoor experience for all badge holders to enjoy — part carnival, part state fair and as always, “Slightly Off.”

“This year, we’ve taken the IFC SXSW experience outdoors,” said Blake Callaway, IFC’s executive vice president of marketing & digital media.  “The IFC Fairgrounds will feature music, old school carnival games, a giant slide, and even Portlandia inspired ice cream.  Our advertising partners are along for the fun and we look forward to opening the Fairgrounds to thousands of festival goers.”

The featured attraction will be the music main stage at the heart of the Fairgrounds, hosting 21 blue-ribbon bands over the course of three days.  See below for a full look at the lineup. Attendees can also enjoy music in two designated lounge areas including the “Deep End Theater,” a multimedia lounge in the park’s empty pool basin. Adding to the entertainment will be a giant three-lane fun slide where attendees can grab a burlap sack, climb up the stairs and take the plunge. Scattered throughout the Fairgrounds will be classic carnival games such as balloon darts and corn hole with drink ticket prizes.

IFC will also have a picnic area with prize-winning local food trucks (CoolHaus, Slab BBQ and Chi’Lantro) and a beer tent on-site. As a special ode to Portlandia and its upcoming episode featuring a celery themed sketch (, the Coolhaus truck at the Fairgrounds is offering two new exclusive flavors: cherry-bourbon-celery and peanut butter-raisin-celery ice cream sandwiches.

The IFC Fairgrounds will also play host to a myriad of like-minded partner brands who will join in on the festivities to reach SXSW attendees in their own fun and unique ways.  IFC’s new and returning SXSW sponsors include:

o   Doritos (returning), an official SXSW sponsor, will provide free chips to Fairgrounds attendees.

o (new) will host an inviting lounge similar to a hotel for Fairgrounds attendees to relax in the shade and recharge themselves.

  • Joe’s Crab Shack (new) will sponsor a “Joe’s Game Shack” area featuring 100% Shore-style fun with fairground games and prizes and, for one hour each day, will treat guests inside the designated VIP areas to two free specialty cocktails.

o   Subway (returning) will host an artist’s green room for musicians to hang between sets with plenty of free sandwiches to go around.

o   Twizzlers candy (new) will sponsor the Fairground’s main attraction: a giant three-story, three-lane-wide fun slide. A designated area in front of the slide will allow sliders to take and upload their best selfie.

Before the IFC Fairgrounds open, the network will host a Portlandia panel on Tuesday, March 11 at 3:30pm at the Austin Convention Center (Room 18ABCD) with creators/stars Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein. They will preview sketches from the upcoming fourth season premiering on IFC on February 27, and host a live Q&A.
