The three new faces include two Mexicans – Heriberto Aguayo, of Mineros de Zacatecas, and Pumas de la UNAM forward Manuel Pérez – and Ecuador’s Cristian Penilla, who joins the team from Barcelona Sporting Club de Guayaquil.
Cruz Azul comes into the Torneo Clausura 2015 fresh from the FIFA Club World Cup with only one preseason game. Luis Fernando Tena’s squad is also fielding three new players – Colombia’s Carlos Lizarazo, Brazil’s Alemao, the Paraguayan star Roque Santa Cruz – and welcomes back Francisco Flores and Antonio Pedroza on defense and offense, respectively.
“It’s always a pleasure to watch Pachuca vs. Cruz Azul, and I’m especially excited to take part in narrating this matchup at the start of a new season,” noted Deportes Telemundo soccer analyst and commentator Carlos Hermosillo, who helped Cruz Azul to victory many times in the 1990s. “Pachuca played well at the end of last season and made it to the finals. We’ll have to see what new plans and strategies Diego Alonso has in store for the club, which has some of the best reserves in Mexican soccer.”
