PUBLIC TELEVISION’S “SIMPLY MING” CELEBRATES TENTH ANNIVERSARY SEASON WITH SPECIAL ALL-STAR GUESTS AND ROAD TRIPS IN OCTOBER 2012
Series Serves Up 26 All-New Episodes “Cooking On the Fly” and “On the Road”
(Boston, MA, September 20, 2012)The James Beard and Emmy-nominated public television series SIMPLY MING is back for its 10th Anniversary season, premiering on Saturday, October 6, 2012 on public television stations nationwide (check your local listings) and on Create TV <http://createtv.com/> in early 2013. Award-winning host Chef Ming Tsai celebrates the television milestone with 26 all-new episodes in a season full of surprises and new twists and featuring some of his all-time favorite special guest chefs—both in-studio sequences “Cooking on the Fly” and in exotic locales “On the Road.” No matter what the location, Ming brings inspiration and surprise ingredients to create simple, fresh cuisine and delicious dishes on the spot, as well as demonstrate basic culinary techniques that all home chefs should understand. The new season coincides with the October 2012 release of Simply Ming in Your Kitchen, a new book of 80 recipes (published by Kyle Books).
“We really pull out all of the stops this year, bringing the best into the studio and traveling across the country and overseas for inspiration and new ingredients—taking viewers to explore some incredible new places,” says Ming. “We’ve even upped the ante on ‘Cooking on the Fly,’ which has been such an entertaining learning experience. To celebrate 10 years of SIMPLY MING, I challenge my guest chefs to use no more than 10 ingredients from my kitchen and encourage them to think out loud so viewers can see their process.”
For Season 10, Ming opens each episode revealing fun and user-friendly tips and advice with quick and easy demos. Designed to make cooking fundamentals less daunting for the home cook, these quick and simple demonstrations showcase Ming’s masterful teaching techniques on everything from blanching to caramelizing, thickening to tenderizing, reconstituting to grilling and poaching. Whether it’s creating pan sauces, a reduction or a roux, or making a ganache with panache, Ming and his all-star line-up of guest chefs will serve up a season full of one-of-a-kind recipes that viewers will want to try at home.
All-Star In-Studio Lineup – “Cooking On the Fly”
In the studio, viewers can see Ming in “Cooking On the Fly” sequences with Nantucket restaurant owners Seth & Angela Raynor, who demo the art of blanching on lobsters and more. Watch Ming and Duff Goldman, Pastry Chef and former star of Ace of Cakes, as they tackle Crème Anglaise and an old school Chocolate Souffle. Todd English teams up with Ming to show viewers how to make the perfect omelet. Top Chef Masters star Susur Lee stops by to whip up a Chinese-style Paella and a risotto dish. Other guest chefs include Jody Adams, Chris Cosentino, Ellie Krieger, Jamie Bissonnette, Joanne Chang, Norman Van Aken, Gordon Hamersley, Andy Husbands, and Jasper White.
All-Star “On the Road” Lineup:
In addition to thirteen all-new studio episodes, SIMPLY MING ventures out to bring viewers on some culinary adventures, offering eight brand new “On the Road” specials. This season the series makes stops in Boston, MA, Chattanooga, TN, San Antonio, TX, and heads overseas to the Azores, the remote volcanic island chain off the coast of Portugal—to work with chefs on location at various restaurants. Ming cooks with Michael Schlow, chef/owner of four Boston restaurants, including Tico, and chef/entrepreneurs on their food trucks. In Chattanooga, Tennessee, he meets Daniel Lindley, chef/owner of St. John’s Restaurant, St. John’s Meeting Place and Alleia Restaurant. He travelsto the Lone Star State to cook alongsidechefs in San Antonio for four episodes. There, he teams up with John Besh, owner of Luke, Elizabeth Kossick, chef/instructor at the CIA, and Diana Barrios Trevino owner of Barrios Restaurant, among others.
Capping off his 10th Anniversary Season, Ming heads to the Azores – a chain of nine exotic islands halfway between the east coast of the United States and Portugal – for five international episodes. For the international trip, Ming films five episodes in the Azores where he learns about cuisine unique to this beautiful location by cooking up amazing dishes with local chefs, home cooks and culinary stars. The Azores is home to a wide variety of culinary influences, and Ming travels from island to island uncovering each location’s unique cuisine – from Portuguese inspired stews to local fish and clams only found in the waters off the islands.
