“This Week with George Stephanopoulos” is No. 1 in Total Viewers and Adults 25-54 on Key Weekend Between the Political Conventions

Stephanopoulos Anchored “GMA” Also No. 1 Last Week



On September 2, 2012, ABC News’ “This Week with George Stephanopoulos” ranked as Sunday’s No. 1 public affairs program in Total Viewers (2.728 million) and Adults 25-54 (766,000), according to Nielsen Media Research. For the first time in more than 3 years, “This Week” took the top spot, beating both NBC’s “Meet the Press” and CBS’ “Face the Nation,” in both Nielsen measures – since 8/2/09.


“This Week” surged week to week (2.182 million and 680,000, respectively, on 8/26/12) in both Total Viewers (+25%) and Adults 25-54 (+13%). The ABC public affairs program drew its largest Total Viewer count in nearly 7 months (since 2/12/12) and 2nd largest overall audience this season.


Year to year, “This Week” was up in both Total Viewers (+23%) and Adults 25-54 (+3%) – 2.215 million and 741,000, respectively, on 9/4/11. “This Week” stood as the only public affairs program to improve on its year-ago performance in both Nielsen measures – NBC’s “Meet the Press” (+5%/-10%), CBS’ “Face the Nation” (-3%/-6%) and Fox’s “Fox News Sunday” (-13%/-12%).


“This Week” topped CBS’ “Face the Nation” in both Total Viewers (+482,000) and Adults 25-54 (+106,000), posting its largest Total Viewer margin over the CBS program in over 2 years – since 6/27/10.


“This Week” beat NBC’s “Meet the Press” by +2,000 Total Viewers and by +65,000 Adults 25-54.
