Scholastic Media’s Emmy Award-Winning, Top-Rated Series for the School-Age Set Powers Up for New Season With a Week Full of Word-Powered Premieres on PBS KIDS

New York, NY, June 27, 2014 – “Worrrrd up!” Kids and families across the country will embark on electrifying, brand-new, word-fueled adventures when WordGirl™, the Emmy Award-winning animated television series from Scholastic Media, makes its Season 7 debut, Monday, August 4, 2014, on PBS KIDS (check local listings). The new season of the long-running hit begins with a week of five “brain-ier” than ever episodes – each inviting kids to join WordGirl and her friends as they fight the “cheesy” tactics and dastardly tricks of local villain Dr. Two Brains, while learning new vocabulary words along the way!

“We are proud to bring back our fearless flier WordGirl for a seventh season on PBS KIDS, as she continues to save the day one word at a time,” said Deborah Forte, President of Scholastic Media and Executive Producer of the series. “This standout show continues to consistently earn high marks among parents and teachers for its ability to engage young viewers and illustrate that words matter.”

Produced by Scholastic Media in association with its animation studio Soup 2 Nuts, each of the 13 new half-hour Season 7 episodes features two vocabulary-infused stories. The seventh season of WordGirl kicks off with five new shows that feature Dr. Two Brains’ devious attempts to take control of the city and zap the entire town with his cheese ray. The latest season follows fifth grader Becky Botsford (aka WordGirl) and her sidekick Bob (aka Captain Huggy Face) as they protect the innocent from Dr. Two Brains and the other quirky villains around town, cleverly combating poor grammar whenever they spot it. Working together with the neighborhood’s new superhero to save friends and family from mind control, stop bank robberies and more, WordGirl’s newest season will entertain and inspire an appreciation for the world of words like never before.

The celebrated and enduring series has received numerous high-profile accolades, including three Daytime Emmy Award wins for “Outstanding Writing in Animation” in 2008, 2012 and 2013, as well as a Television Critics Award for “Outstanding Achievement in Children’s Programming” in 2008.

Returning voice talent for Season 7 includes: Dannah Phirman (MadTV) as WordGirl, Chris Parnell (Saturday Night Live) as the Narrator, Ryan Raddatz (Ellen: The Ellen DeGeneres Show) as Mr. Botsford and Scoops, Tom Kenny (SpongeBob Squarepants) as Dr. Two Brains and Jeffrey Tambor (Arrested Development) as Mr. Big, among others.
