With crazy high results for Two And A Half Men and a few other CBS shows during premiere week their Index results are skewed top heavy. That’ll even out over the next few weeks and we’ll get a better picture of the prospects for the rest of their scripted shows.
The only show that looks a bit worrisome after a week is Friday’s A Gifted Man. It can’t stand much of a decline from its premiere rating before it’ll need a big gift itself to stay on the schedule.
After suffering through two years of bad ratings for The Good Wife for that Emmy love (and signing up for this its third season), I can’t imagine that CBS won’t bite the bullet for a fourth to create enough episodes for their syndication sales people to try and market (but no deal yet, unlike Hawaii Five-0 that was sold soon after its premiere). Still, it was, as usual, CBS’s lowest rated non-Friday scripted show for the week and I’d expect it to be a “toss up” for this entire season.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show’s new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It’s calculated by dividing a show’s new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show’s own network. The network’s average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).
(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.
