A rematch of the 2008 NBA Finals featuring the Los Angeles Lakers vs. the Boston Celtics in a game the Lakers won in a dramatic overtime averaged 4.3 million viewers and was the night’s most-watched program on cable among men 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 on Thursday night. It was also the most-watched regular season contest on TNT since a February 1996 matchup featuring the Michael Jordan led Chicago Bulls vs. the Lakers that also featured Magic Johnson early in his attempt at a comeback.

Additionally, it was the most-watched regular season game on cable TV since an ESPN Christmas day contest between the Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers in 2004.

But KG and Kobe wound up no match for USA Network’s Burn Notice. Burn Notice averaged 5.27 million viewers and 3.3/6 household rating/share and a 1.8/5 among 18-49 year olds.

So far this season, through 31 games, TNT is 23% ahead of last year’s pace averaging 1.75m for its Thursday night doubleheaders vs. last year’s 1.43 million.
