Update 04/03/09, 8:42a PDT : in the preliminary overnight numbers, ER averaged 16.3 million and a 6.0 rating with adults 18-49 between 9pm-11p.  The retrospective show at 8pm averaged 10.6 million and a 3.5 adults 18-49 rating.

After 15 years, ER is coming to an end.  I haven’t watched the show in years, but I know a lot of people are attached to it and will miss it!  NBC will especially miss it as it has hardly any shows remaining that can regularly pull better than a 3.0 rating with adults 18-49.

Saying goodbye can always be hard, but you can kill some time by predicting how many people will watch ER’s finale.

People seem to really want to post their predictions of how the ER finale will do tonight, so rather than post some web poll and boxing you into specific choices, feel free to post your own predictions in any fashion you choose.

My prediction:  11.8 million viewers  and a 4.4 rating  in the 18-49 demo between 9pm-11pm.  I’d go higher if it were only one hour, and I’m sure the 10pm-11pm hour will be higher.

Update: Well it looks my 11.8 million viewer prediction will certainly be beaten if the early metered market numbers hold up when the fast affiliate data is released, but those who were predicting 20 million and above look to be disappointed based on those early metered market numbers (household ratings only) via Marc Berman:

ER (NBC) – series finale
9:00 p.m.: 9.6/15 (#1)
9:30 p.m.: 10.2/16 (#1)
10:00 p.m.: 11.3/18 (#1)
10:30 p.m.: 11.2/19 (#1)

8pm-9pm ER Retrospective 7.2/12

Check back later for the full overnight ratings post.  I will make sure to list all the half hourly data for NBC — unfortunately we don’t get the 15 minute data.
