spockFringeTelevision.com is reporting that Leonard Nimoy will appear in the season finale of Fringe on May 12 in the role of Massive Dynamic founder and Walter Bishop’s former lab partner at Harvard, William Bell.

I know some fringe fans of Fringe were hoping that it turned out that Walter Bishop somehow actually was William Bell, but I’ve never thought that a likely outcome.  More likely that before Bishop went crazy, he was at odds with Bell and trying to stop him.

I don’t really have anything against stunt-casting and sometimes it can be done with good results.  Britney Spears appearing on How I Met Your Mother last spring really seemed to help its ratings.  Nimoy’s appearance can’t be anything but good for Fringe, and the timing is outstanding since it will be the first episode of Fringe after the Star Trek movie is released in the U.S. on May 8th.   Nimoy does have a role in the movie, reprising his role as Spock, though obviously the much older  version.

As an aside, though Gorman and I are often at odds on things like the prospects for Eleventh Hour (though he’s now coming around), one thing we’re completely aligned on: based on the trailers, we can’t wait to see the new Star Trek movie.
