A Smithsonian Channel Special Narrated By Academy Award® Winner Kim Basinger Premieres

New York – November 18, 2010 – To mark the 50th anniversary of Harry Winston’s donation of the Hope Diamond to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History, the world’s most famous jewel’s new commemorative setting was revealed today in Washington, D.C. To coincide with The Hope’s new setting, Smithsonian Channel will premiere a one-hour special this weekend, MYSTERY OF THE HOPE DIAMOND on Sunday, November 21 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

MYSTERY OF THE HOPE DIAMOND is available for viewing on multiple platforms starting today including, on YouTube, via the Smithsonian Channel mobile app, via online affiliate portals and is available for free download on iTunes. The special’s widespread sampling is the Channel’s most ambitious multi-platform effort to date. A MYSTERY OF THE HOPE DIAMOND trivia game is also available on Facebook, as well as on the Smithsonian Channel mobile app.

The Hope Diamond was placed into a spectacular new setting, “Embracing Hope,” created by the Harry Winston design team, handcrafted at Harry Winston’s workshop, and worn by supermodel Hilary Rhoda. The new setting was chosen in an online vote last year on, where over 100,000 votes were cast. The diamond will remain on display in the temporary setting in the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History’s Harry Winston Gallery before being returned to its historic setting.
