“Judge Judy” started a new season in the same place as it ended the old season: ranking first among syndicated strips.
The show opened its 21st season with a 7.0 household rating, good enough for a seventh straight week at the top of the charts. “Family Feud” held onto second with a 6.3.
“Dr. Phil” easily led the talk show race with a 3.8 in households, topping “Live with Kelly” (2.5) by more than full point.
Outside the Top 25, Harry Connick Jr.’s show “Harry” averaged a 1.4 for its first week, putting it between “Steve Harvey” (1.5) and “Dr. Oz” (1.3). “Oz,” incidentally, didn’t get much of a boost from a hyped appearance by presidential candidate Donald Trump on Sept. 15. The show was only up a tenth of a point from the previous week.

Why do you use household ratings here but nowhere else? Ad deals for syndicated shows are largely based on household ratings and, for daytime shows, ratings among women 25-54.
What about “The Simpsons”? “Simpsons” repeats in syndication are not counted in the weekly ratings because they don’t include any national advertising.
“Weekend Adventure” is a package of nature shows airing weekends on many ABC stations.
For syndicated shows airing on multiple days, the viewership is the average of all telecasts.
Distributor key: DAD = Disney ABC Domestic Television, SPT= Sony Pictures Television, 2/T=Twentieth Television, WB = Warner Bros., CTD = CBS Television Distribution, NBU = NBCUniversal.
AT = Additional Time/Telecasts, more than the typical number of episodes or time periods/week.
