Last year ABC ran three summer shows.  There was some industry chatter about how the broadcast networks were getting serious about summer because they didn’t want to cede summer scripted to the cable networks because advertisers prefer scripted shows, but the results were decidedly hum-drum.

One of the three series was renewed, the Canadian (and less expensive), Rookie BlueScoundrels and The Gates were canceled.  Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva reports that there will be three again this summer.  Another yet-to-be-titled Canadian series and a new show from the producers of The Gates titled Missing.

At least this summer two of the three shows will be from Canada, so if nothing else ABC’s costs for summer scripted will be down from last year.
